SFU facilitates international scientific collaboration in leading-edge research

The SFU program serves as a vital liaison among the biomedical-engineering departments at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Kyiv Aviation Institute, and Boston University, coordinating a new international research initiative in several critical areas. One focus is the use of prosthetics and sensory aids for wounded soldiers, ranging from testing advanced materials for next-generation prosthetics, to training early-career clinicians in this emerging specialty, to evaluating both short- and long-term patient outcomes.

Another focus is an epidemiological study of emerging Hepatitis B and C cases—both blood-borne infections—among infantry troops and in frontline hospitals. An international team of epidemiologists will track incident cases and transmission rates using state-of-the-art epidemiological and statistical methods. Finally, we are collaborating with Ukrainian-language scholars to expand and refine the country’s scientific vocabulary.
