See Forward Lab's AI Music + Live Violin workshop is a wrap.

It turns out almost any musical phrase – the breath between notes, the shape of a melody – can be mapped as a function. Almost. The one thing AI still can't quite predict? The uncertainty. That split-second turn in human hearing, the way a listener anticipates the next note in their own head before it arrives. That requires reading the room. That requires projection. That's where the machine hesitates. And where it got interesting.

A single motif went in. None of us could fully predict what came out. That was exactly the point.

We explored where AI music tools genuinely shine, where they stumble, and what it sounds like when a live musician responds in real time to a machine's interpretation of a prompt.

What's Next

Our next workshop stays in the same spirit – but this time, we're drawing the music. Literally.

We'll be drawing curves and fitting melodies into them, saving each as a MIDI file and importing it into the model. What if you had to imitate AI reasoning?
We're putting that to the test.
Think of it less as a performance, more like a musical experiment – and the unexpected results are kind of the whole point.

Math, music, and a little controlled chaos.
